Activities

Our early earthquake warning (EEW) efforts encompass developing algorithms, optimising seismic network and processing infrastructure, and the distribution of low-latency alerts. The developed algorithms and software are currently providing public EEW alerts through ShakeAlert and across Central America, contributing significantly to earthquake preparedness and safety.

Algorithms and softwares

The Virtual Seismologist method is a Bayesian approach to earthquake early warning that estimates earthquake magnitude, location, and the distribution of peak ground shaking.

The FinDer algorithm uses template matching to rapidly compute finite-source models that provide information on the spatial extent of high-frequency seismic ground motion near the developing fault rupture.

EEW app & display: A mobile phone app that allows agencies operating EEW to directly deliver alerts and a free and open-source java software for displaying earthquake early warnings are available.
