Special networks are often temporary monitoring networks. They supplement the national monitoring network and are used for a variety of purposes. These include:

  • the detection of aftershocks
  • the monitoring of induced seismicity, for example in connection with geothermal projects
  • support for research or educational projects
  • as well as the execution of commercial contracts for third parties, such as for monitoring civil engineering projects

The SED currently operates several such special networks throughout Switzerland.
