Special networks are often temporary monitoring networks. They supplement the national monitoring network and are used for a variety of purposes. These include:
- the detection of aftershocks
- the monitoring of induced seismicity, for example in connection with geothermal projects
- support for research or educational projects
- as well as the execution of commercial contracts for third parties, such as for monitoring civil engineering projects
The SED currently operates several such special networks throughout Switzerland.
