The map and list displayed below contain all earthquakes that have been located by the SED since December 2006 (begin of hydraulic stimulation as part of the Deep Heat Mining Projct in Basel).
The list contains only locations that were verified by a seismologist. There is a possibility that the map shows automatically located earthquakes immediately after an earthquake. These locations may be imprecise (up to 5 km). Only those quakes are listed which have occurred at depths less than 8 kilometers. For larger quakes, an interconnection with this supervised geothermal project is extremely unlikely.
NB: In the list, no distinction is made between natural and induced earthquakes. Earthquakes in the Basel area are usually caused by naturally occurring seismic activity in the region and are not necessarily connected to the geothermal energy project in Basel.
